A group with the name, Friends of Jagaban Initiative, (FOJI) has commended the choices of Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila and Senator Geroge Akume as the Chief of Staff, (COS) to President Tinubu and Secretary to Government of the Federation, (SGF) respectively.
In a press conference addressed on behalf of the group by its patron, Dr Akin Ogunbiyi, FOJI descibed Rt. Hon. Gbajabiamila as the best and the most qualified person for the job.
“We wishe to submit that there is no better person for the hallowed position of the Chief of Staff to the President than Hon. Gbaja as he is fondly called.
Having been the speaker of a cohesive 9th House of Representative for the past four years, we have a strong conviction in his ability to promite cordial relationships among the various arms of government.
“He will effectively use his position to promote a progressive romance between the executive and the legislature.” FOJI further stressed adding, “It is our believe that any friction between the two arms of government will not be good for the renewed Hope Agenda of Mr. President. Hence the need for a personage as Hon. Gbaja to occupy that position”.
FOJI also observed that the leadership of Hon. Gbaja in the out-going 9th National Assembly was symbolised with unprecedented harmony and unanimity among the arms of government, noting that the 9th House of Representatives was the best Nigeria has ever had since 1999.
It also stressed that a lot of progressive legislations including but not limited to the Finance Act, Companies and Allied Matters Act, Electoral Act and the recent Arbitration and Reconciliation Act were passed under his leadership.
” With the passage of Electoral Act by the 9th Assembly we could see a more transparent elections in the just concluded general elections as against our previous ones.. It is equally easier to do business in Nigeria now following the passage of Companies and Allied Matters Act also by the out-going Assembly.
“On the appointment of Distinguished Senator George Akume as Secretary to the Government of the Federation, (SGF) it is our position that it cannot be faulted. The office of the SGF is the heart and the engine room of the Federal government and as such is meant to be manned by a qualified hand.
” His antecedents as a Governor, Senator and Minister speak volumes of his ability and qualification. George Akume has the proficiency to coordinate and galvanize the apparatus of government to ensure quality delivery.
” We have anticipated it, and we are deeply delighted that Mr. President in his usual shrewdness considered Akume for the daunting but indispensable post of the SGF. These incipient appointments are a precursor to the quality of members of the prospective cabinet, as we all know that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu does not give room for mediocrity.”
The group described as laudable, the fuel subsidy removal, adding that it had been a clog in the wheel of the country’s national development.
“We welcome the decision of Mr. President to scrap the cankerworm called fuel subsidy to give room for development of our dear country. We appreciate the fact that the early stage of fuel subsidy removal will be tough. However we urge Nigerians to be patient because there is always a light at the end of the tunnel.
“We are sure that Mr. President is not oblivious of the groanings of Nigerians. Certainly measures will be taken to mitigate the initial harshness of this laudable and bold policy. He has signified the intention of his administration to review minimum wage in line with the current realities and definitely he will do it.
