Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Safety Standards, Honourable David Idris Zacharias has expressed deep concern over the frequent tanker explosions across Nigeria.

He called for a thorough investigation into the causes of these incidents, which have resulted in significant loss of lives and property across the country in less than two weeks.

He said three devastating fuel tanker explosions have occurred in quick successions, with the worst incident happening in Niger State, claiming over 90 lives.

Honourable Zacharias emphasized that “these incidents can no longer be tolerated and l feel it’s necessary we organize a stakeholders’ public hearing to address the issue.

He suggested that the problems may stem from lack of roadworthiness of the trucks transporting fuel or human errors. To combat this, Honourable Zacharias urged the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) to conduct thorough inspections of all trucks designated to transport fuel products in the country.
