Effective Oversight Will Uphold The Integrity Of Legislature –Jaji

Oversight responsibilities of the House of Representatives’ Standing Committees shall be overhauled and strengthened for effectiveness said Hon. Aminu Sani Jaji.

Hon. Jaji who stated this while declaring his intent to run for the Speakership of the 10th House of Representatives stressed that the integrity of the National Assembly has severally been called to questions due to perceived poor interrogations and monitoring of what the executive arm of government does with funds the legislature appropriates to it yearly.

He promised that the House of Representatives under his leadership as Speaker would be a parliament that would work for the progress of Nigeria and general good of the Nigerian people.
Hon. Jaji, a member-elect from Kaura Namoda/Birnin Magaji Federal constituency of Zamfara State noted that oversight functions of the Standing Committees of the parliament remained the most important aspect of legislative actions which had yet to attain their full potentials

Rep-elect Jaji further stressed that the challenges militating against the oversight capabilities of the committees were the problems of logistics and capacity building which according to him would be squarely addressed if given the opportunity to serve.

“We shall strive to provide adequate logistics to Honourable Members and their
support staff”. He said. Adding, “some logistics would be in a pool while others would be individualised or even monitored as the case may be “

He disclosed that the Nigerian Institute of Legislative Studies, (NILS), the training arm of the legislature would be adequately funded and equiped to provide requisite trainings for members of committees to enable them carry out thorough scrutiny of the agencies they oversight.

“The NILS shall be reorganised for qualitative service delivery in training and
exposures. Two important innovations to be introduced include a redesigned
Educational Tour for Honourable members so that each member shall experience global pathways to development across all continents.

“The other innovation is to synchronise
NILS training in degree programming that will allow Legislators being awarded
various degrees after completing the required programme “
