A senior security official at the Ajiwe Police Station, had come to shed more lights on the outcome of the interrogation which is still on going concerning the policeman who has admitted to “mistakenly” killing the pregnant Nigerian lawyer, Bolanle Raheem on Christmas day when she was trying to make a U-turn under Ajah Bridge, the Punch reports.
The source who spoke to newsmen in other to tell the public the current efforts being made to make sure that justice prevailed over the death of Bolanle Raheem noted that Drambi Vandi who is a calm police officer admitted that he mistakenly pulled the trigger at Bolanle Raheem.
He also disclosed that Drambi Vandi when being interrogated said that he had initially cocked his gun when he was trying to scare someone earlier and instead of returning the gun to safety, he forgot to do that and when Bolanle also arrived the checkpoint, he wanted to do the same thing to her. But unknowingly to him, the gun was already in the killing mode and that was how he mistakenly killed the Nigerian lawyer.
Vandi who claimed an accidental discharge for the cause of the death of Bolanle Raheem was said to be due to be promoted to the rank of a Deputy Superintendent of Police by February 2023 and he was supposed to retire in 2024 before he mistakenly pulled the trigger on Christmas day.
The source said, “He was being interrogated by the DPO and some senior police officers yesterday morning (Monday).
He said he had cocked his gun to scare someone earlier and forgot to return it to safe.
By the time the victim arrived at the checkpoint, he attempted to repeat the same act, but mistakenly pulled the trigger. Vandi is a calm officer.
He is due to be promoted to Deputy Superintendent of Police by February 2023 and retire in 2024 before the unfortunate incident.”
Nevertheless, the source further disclosed that interrogations are still ongoing and they would soon get to the root of the matter and they will publicly make their decisions known very soon, while stressing that the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alabi sued for calm and peace among Lagos residents, mostly the youths.
