The presidency has revealed that it had foiled another jailbreak attempt following the attack on the Kuje Correctional facility in early July 2022, the Punch Newspapers reports. The Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, revealed this at the 64th session of the State House Ministerial briefing organised by the Presidential Communications Team at the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja. While fielding questions about the root cause of the perennial jailbreaks, Aregbesola revealed that the standby p that were provided at the correctional facility were the ones that repelled the attack and killed all of the terrorists. Aregbesola said, “Some terrorists attempted to break another prison, but we have sent them back to their maker.”
Although Aregbesola did not specify which correctional facility he was referring to, but he boasted that there is no way any other terrorist group can attack any correctional facility in Nigeria again because they’ve learnt from their mistakes and have put in place so many measures to repel terrorist attacks. He also boasted that no fleeing inmate could hide forever as their biometrics have been stored permanently on the Nigeria Police database.
